For over 40 years Tom’s of Maine have run a responsible business that is both socially and environmentally conscious in the production and distribution of their products. Tom’s of Maine products are all natural and involve absolutely no animal testing, ever! In fact, Tom’s of Maine actually challenged the U.S. Food Drug Administration (FDA) to accept a non-animal-testing alternative for fluoride toothpaste which at the time was an immense initiative to accomplish!

It’s not just our food that can be contaminated with toxins and chemicals that can affect our health, our body care and oral care products also make an impact as these chemicals can make their way into the bloodstream via the skin as well as the oral cavity.

Our Ingredients

In making products for you, we strive for transparency and quality in ingredients. We want to help you make the choices that are right for you and your family!

Naturally sourced

This is what we call an ingredient when it hasn't changed much from how it occurs in the identified source material. An example of this is peppermint oil. The peppermint oil we use in our products has been removed and concentrated but it is otherwise much the same as it would be found in the peppermint leaves.

Naturally derived

Naturally derived ingredients have been modified from their original state through additional processing. This is generally done to improve the ingredient’s safety or efficacy. An example of this is silica. In its natural state, silica would be too abrasive, so it goes through some processing to improve the ingredient's safety.

Preparation Process

In reviewing ingredients for our products – whether naturally sourced or derived – we do consider the preparation processes involved. And it is our practice to only allow preparation processes which support our philosophy of human and environmental health.

Caring for our planet

Caring for the environment has been something we have focused on since 1970. Our very first product was Clearlake Laundry Detergent–the nation’s first liquid, non-phosphate laundry detergent. Since then we have continued to find ways to minimize our impact through our manufacturing practices, our packaging choices and the organizations we partner with.

Tom's Of Maine Clean & Fresh Fluoride-Free Toothpaste

This fluoride-free toothpaste helps reduce plaque and prevent tartar buildup with regular brushing. It also uses authentic naturally derived ingredients. Our zinc citrate is sourced from zinc, a naturally occurring mineral and xylitol, a natural ingredient derived from birch trees or corn. We've also added natural flavouring for a taste that will make you look forward to brushing. We produce this toothpaste without fluoride because we respect our customers' diverse needs and interests. Why fluoride? Excess exposure to fluoride has been associated with various health issues such as neurotoxicity, bone problems, and dental fluorosis.

Our toothpaste is available in peppermint, fennel, spearmint, fresh mint.

Tom's Of Maine Long-Last Natural Deodorant

Our effective line of long-lasting, aluminum-free Deodorant sticks uses odour-fighting hops to provide 24-hour odour protection to help keep you feeling fresh throughout the day, while the natural fragrance helps you smell and feel your best! We produce this Deodorant without aluminum because we respect our customers' diverse needs and interests. Aluminum exposure has been associated with neurotoxicity and possible increase of breast cancer risk though more human studies are needed (1)(2).

Available in unscented, lemongrass, beautiful earth, calendula, and honeysuckle.
