The Ketogenic (or Keto) diet is a low carb diet that promotes the metabolic formation of ketone bodies by causing the body to use fat (instead of carbohydrates) as it's main source of energy. Similar to the Atkins Diet, the Keto diet is a low carb, high fat diet. Ketogenic diets can cause reductions in blood sugar and insulin levels. When the body is in the metabolic state ketosis, the body becomes incredibly efficient at burning fat.
The standard ketogenic diet is typically 75% fat, 20% protein and only 5% carbs.
