Product Review: New Roots Organic Rosehip Seed Oil for Acne Scars

If you’ve suffered from acne before— whether it’s the occasional spot or full-on explosion of stubborn, cystic red bumps on your face— you likely understand how difficult it can be to get your skin to clear up. And if having acne isn’t painful enough, breakouts leave behind red marks and scars as unfriendly reminders of the tragedy your skin has ensued. I know that in my personal experience with hormonal acne, I would spend hours in front of the mirror trying to cover up inflamed spots and red marks with chemical-laden cosmetics. I’d spend hundreds of dollars on expensive face creams, toners, cleansers, scar gels and creams and pray that I’d wake up in the morning with a somewhat improved complexion.

Unfortunately, these products rarely worked and I woke up more disappointed and discouraged with each new product I tried. That is, until one night I was doing research and discovered rosehip seed oil. After one week of applying organic rosehip seed oil to my skin each night, I couldn’t believe I’d doubted Mother Nature as the best solution for marks and scars left from acne. The pink and red marks left behind from breakouts on my skin had healed and lightened significantly. And call me crazy, but my skin also had a more firm, supple look to from just one week of use.

And while I’m happy to say that I no longer suffer from acne (after healing the root cause by doing some serious hormone balancing) I continue to use rosehip seed oil every night because I love how healthy it makes my skin look and feel. Now, as a disclaimer, I should mention that the problematic areas on my skin were mostly bright red marks that lingered on my skin for weeks at a time, before fading to a pale pink. The marks would typically last about a month before they began to fade. I didn’t experience ice pick scars, so I can’t speak from personal experience whether or not rosehip oil can benefit deep scarring. However, I can explain the health benefits of rosehip oil, and why it’s so effective for improving the overall texture and appearance of the skin.

Organic Rosehip Seed Oil Benefits For The Skin

If you haven’t heard of rosehip seed oil before, it’s extracted from the rosehip seeds of the wild rose bush that grows in Chile. In addition to being helpful for scars, rosehip seed oil is said to help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, even out skin tone and reduce hyperpigmentation. Rosehip seed oil is safe for sensitive skin, and naturally hydrates itchy, dry skin.

The nutrients found in rosehip seed oil are what allow it to be so useful for skin repair and regenerate, such as:

Essential Fatty Acids

Essential fatty acids are the building blocks of healthy cell membranes, including skin cells. New Roots Organic Rosehip Seed Oil contains linolenic and linoleic acids, which are two essential fatty acids that moisturize and protect the skin.

Vitamin C

Rosehip seed oil contains vitamin C, which is an antioxidant vitamin that helps synthesize collagen and promote skin elasticity. Vitamin C is a critical nutrient to have in your skincare products (and in your diet) if you want to keep your skin looking youthful and bright, while preventing fine lines and wrinkles.

Retinoic Acid

One of the rare benefits of rosehip seed oil is that it contains retinoic acid. Retinoic acid is a compound derived from vitamin A, which further supports healthy collagen. It’s said to be especially useful for skin repair and used as a treatment for acne breakouts and scarring.

Rosehip Oil is Non-Comedogenic

Lastly, rosehip oil is non-comedogenic, which means it won’t clog pores. Since clogged pores lead to blackheads, whiteheads and acne, rosehip oil is safe to use to prevent future breakouts. One of the reasons I love and recommend New Roots Organic Rosehip Seed Oil is because it’s cold-pressed, which means it retains most of its nutrients during extraction. And as a certified organic product, it’s free from toxic chemicals that could worsen the condition of the skin. I also love that with New Roots Organic Rosehip Seed Oil, a little goes a long way. Since it’s pure rosehip seed oil without other added ingredients or preservatives, every drop is full of skin-supportive nutrition. And although it’s a non-greasy oil, just one drop is enough for your entire face. I give New Roots Organic Rosehip Seed Oil 5/5 for naturally improving the appearance and texture of skin, and lightening pale to dark spots. And since I can’t seem to say enough good things about New Roots Organic Rosehip Seed Oil, I let my skin say it for me.
